Babyshambles star Pete Doherty is out of Wormwood Scrubs

Pop singer Pete Doherty, who fronts the band Babyshambles, has been let out of prison early after serving only 29 days of a 14-week sentence that had been imposed for drug and driving offences he was convicted of.

Last October, the star was given a suspended sentence for driving with no insurance and with no MoT, as well as possessing crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and cannabis, but he was jailed in April for failing to keep appointments with his probation officers.

Pete Doherty had been held in Wormwood Scrubs prison in west London and when he got out he told reporters he was looking forward to having a rum and coke and seeing his pet cats.

Doherty also showed the press a certificate that proved he had passed a drugs test while in jail.

Because of his sentence Doherty had to postpone a concert at the Royal Albert Hall, which would have been his biggest solo gig ever, although it has been announced that it will be rescheduled and all tickets will still be valid.

Pete Doherty had been expected to have to miss his Glastonbury Festival performance if he did the full sentence but he is now out in plenty of time for the event.
