Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon had breast cancer

Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon has revealed that when she received treatment for breast cancer she decided to keep it a secret.

42-year-old Cynthia Nixon, who played the role of lawyer Miranda Hobbes in the series, explained on the American TV show Nightline that she "didn't really want to make it public," and Cynthia Nixon added: "I didn't want paparazzi at the hospital while I was going through this."

Cynthia Nixon found out she had the condition a year and a half ago and she even arranged for the time of her operation so it wouldn’t clash with the play she was starring in.

Cynthia Nixon also said that she had thought she was likely to have breast cancer because her mother had suffered from it too.

Cynthia Nixon is reported to have made a good recovery after the operation as well as a course of radiotherapy, and the actress has become an official ambassador for a cancer charity.
