French police to question Somali pirates in Paris
Following the release of the crew of the luxury yacht The Ponant and the capture of the Somali pirates who had seized it, six pirates have been flown to Paris to be questioned by French police.

The pirates are being held and interrogated at the French police headquarters in Paris.

Somali piratesFrench commandos had arrested the pirates on Friday in a helicopter raid a short time after the pirates had set 30 hostages from The Ponant free.

22 French, six Filipinos, a Cameroonian and a Ukrainian made up the crew of The Ponant, and the Somali pirates had taken them all captive a week earlier.

The six Somali pirates can be detained for up to four days, and, depending on the outcome of the questioning by police, they may have to face trial in France.

The Ponant and its 30 crew members had been taken prisoner by the pirates in the Gulf of Aden on 4 April, and the boat was then moored near the port of Eyl while the pirates held discussions with its owners, the French charter company CMA-CGM.
