French retail group Carrefour boycotted by ChineseFrench global retailer Carrefour has found itself targeted by Chinese activists who are urging consumers to boycott it in the wake of the Olympic torch's relay being disrupted on its journey through Paris.
France has come under fire by Chinese protesters because pro-Tibet demonstrators attempted to grab the Olympic torch from Chinese Paralympic fencer Jin Jing, and this was picked up on by the media.
A message is being spread around online and on mobile phones claiming that Carrefour are in support of the Dalai Lama, who is blamed by the Chinese for stirring up resistance and unrest in Tibet. And adding fuel to the fire, Reuters had revealed that Carrefour's parent company had "donated a lot of money to the Dalai Lama". Carrefour, together with luxury brand Louis Vuitton, are among French companies targeted by Chinese activists both in their home country and abroad.
