Former French President Jacques Chirac has heart surgery
Former French President Jacques Chirac needed a pacemaker for a heart problem he has been suffering and the device has been successfully implanted in an operation carried out in a hospital in France.

Jacques Chirac, 75, was taken into La Pitie Salpetriere hospital on Thursday and he had the surgery to fit the pacemaker on Friday morning reports say.


Former French President Jacques ChiracIt had been found out that Jacques Chirac needed the device when he went for a routine medical check and now he has received the pacemaker his representatives have said that everything went according to plan and that the former president is expected to go home on the weekend.

Jacques Chirac was replaced as president of France by Nicolas Sarkozy last May after 12 years of holding the office.

However, Jacques Chirac has been at the centre of an investigation into the misuse of funds while he was serving as Paris mayor. Jacques Chirac has maintained his innocence of any such wrongdoing while he was mayor of the capital of France.
