
Australian-born Bob Irwin, who set up the park 38 years ago and is as keen on nature and conservation as his world famous son, handed over control of the zoo to Steve Irwin in 1991.
Tragically, however in 2006, a stingray killed Steve Irwin, who was famed for his hands-on and often daredevil approach to dealing with wildlife. Steve Irwin was filming a documentary when the accident that caused his death happened.
Steve Irwin’s widow Terri Irwin has promised to carry on his work on conservation and the study of crocodiles.
Bob Irwin wouldn’t make any comment on his reported disagreement with Terri Irwin over the running of the zoo but he admitted he didn’t agree with everything that was being done there.
