US R&B singer Sean Levert dies in jail
American R&B singer Sean Levert, who was part of the 1980s hit-making trio LeVert, has died at the age of 39, and he was in jail in Cleveland, Ohio at the time of his death.

Sean Levert, who was the son of O'Jays vocalist Eddie Levert, was sentenced just last week to one year and 10 months imprisonment for not paying child maintenance.

Sean LevertThe cause of Sean Levert’s death has yet to be established and a coroner's spokesman said an autopsy was inconclusive. Foul play has been ruled out as the reason Sean Levert died but it is known that the singer was suffering from high blood pressure and hallucinations.

Prison warden Kevin McDonough explained that Sean Levert had been ill and guards had been keeping an eye on him because he was acting oddly.

Sean Levert died at the Lutheran Hospital on Sunday, less than an hour after he had been brought in for treatment.

Sean Levert had been sentenced after pleading guilty to failing to pay $89,025 (£45,085) in child support.

Judge Nancy Margaret Russo who imposed the sentence on Sean Levert said on Monday that the singer hadn’t said he was suffering any health problems, however, she said court reports showed he had been addicted to smoking marijuana from the age of 14 until recently.
