Chantal Sebire had been suffering from the very rare form of cancer known as esthesioneuroblastoma, which is a tumour in the area of the nose, and which had left her blind, disfigured and in extreme pain.
Dijon prosecutor Jean-Pierre Alacchi, who is in charge of dealing with Chantal Sebire’s death and the post-mortem that looked into it, said there was no specific reason found but he said further tests were being done to find out if anyone had assisted her.
Chantal Sebire had appealed on French television in February for the right to die, saying she could no longer see, taste or smell properly and telling how children ran away from her in the street, however, a magistrate in Dijon said the case would have to be turned down under French law.
