Studies have discovered that women more often suffer from depression than men until the age of 65, but after that it doesn’t make any difference what gender a person is.
The university research team studied 3,987 men over the age of 70, all of whom gave blood samples and agreed to tests to assess if they were depressed.
The scientists admit that more work was needed to be certain of their results and conclusions, however, their findings suggest that boosting testosterone levels in older men may be a way of combating depression.
Other studies have suggested that levels of testosterone in men of all ages are going down.
