Biggest UK earthquake in 25 years felt all over the land
Great Britain has experienced the biggest earthquake recorded there in 25 years and thousands of homes and business premises were shaken homes all over the country.

The quake hit Newcastle, Yorkshire, London, Cumbria, the Midlands, and Norfolk, as well as parts of Wales, just before 0100 GMT and a man was injured seriously when a chimney collapsed in South Yorkshire.

British Geological SurveyThe British Geological Survey (BGS) revealed that the epicentre of the 5.3 magnitude earthquake occurred near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire.

North, mid and south Wales experienced the tremor but staff at North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said although they felt the quake they didn’t have to respond to any emergency call-outs.

The BGS is reported to have recorded an earthquake aftershock with a magnitude of 1.8 at about 0400 GMT.

The main earthquake, which happened at 0056 GMT, is said to be the biggest recorded earth tremor since one with a magnitude of 5.4 was felt in north Wales back in 1984.
