French singer and musician, Henri Salvador, has died in Paris at the age of 90, according to reports.

Henri Salvador has been credited with and known for helping inspire both the bossa nova and the music video, in fact, he was among the first singers to set his songs to visual images, which gained him the name of “the father of the music video.”

Henri SalvadorHenri Salvador was also famous for his deep and hearty laughter and the crooning style he sang with.

Henri Salvador, although aged 90, was planning yet another album in 2008 and he last gave a performance just back in December.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy paid tribute saying that Henri Salvador's death brought him "infinite sadness" and the president went on to add: "For more than a half-century, with humour and elegance, Henri was the incarnation of the art of song 'a la Francaise.'"

Besides his legendary status in his home country of France, Henri Salvador was also a star in Latin America, especially in Brazil, where his 1957 song Dans Mon Ile was said to have been the inspiration for jazz musician Antonio Carlos Jobim to come up with the bossa nova style of music.
