James Spears, the father of Britney, in charge of her estate

James Spears, the father of troubled pop singer Britney Spears who is receiving psychiatric treatment, has been given control of her estate, whilst his daughter’s own welfare has been taken from her, by a Los Angeles court order.

Britney Spears’ estate and assets have been placed under the "conservatorship" of her father, following the singer’s admittance to a psychiatric hospital on Thursday.

Court commissioner Reva Goetz explained that 26-year-old Britney Spears would be under the conservatorship until 4 February when another hearing is to take place to assess her condition and case.

The court has also placed a restraining order on Britney Spears' manager Sam Lutfi, and has allowed the locks on her estate to be changed, as well as for anyone who was there to be removed from the property.

Britney Spears is reported to be receiving treatment at the UCLA medical centre, where she was taken for a psychiatric examination.
