French golfer, Jean Van de Velde, to play in Women's Open?

Following
the decision to allow women to compete in the world's most famous golf
tournament, the Royal and Ancient's Open, many male players are upset
that it will mean exclusion for some of their players. In consequence
some men are threatening to apply to play in the Women's Open, one of
these is France's leading player Jean Van de Velde who quipped "I'll
shave my legs and wear a kilt if I have to." "Where do we draw the
line? If women can enter our tournaments then surely equality dictates
that we should be allowed to play in theirs."
English
Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter referring to the decision said "I don't see
why they should play in ours when we're not allowed to play in theirs,"
However, they're likely to be given the thumbs down by the Ladies
Golfing Union as its rules state that players "must be of the female
gender".
