Jay Leno and David Letterman back on US TV after strike
American talk show hosts Jay Leno and David Letterman are both going to be back on television again two months after writers went on strike.

The Hollywood writers strike had started on 5 November because of arguments with studios about the payment of royalties for work distributed online or released on DVD.

Jay LenoHowever, David Letterman's Late Show on the CBS network will make a return after his production company reached a deal with strikers, and Jay Leno's The Tonight Show on NBC is coming back too but minus its team of writers.

The Writers Guild of America explained that David Letterman's new deal meant writers would be paid for work distributed online.

Jay Leno's most famous guest for the first of his new shows will be Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

Other talk show hosts, such as Conan O'Brien, are making a comeback to TV screens but without their usual writing teams.

This will mean that the hosts of the shows won’t be able to perform many of their usual features, and will have to depend on booking guests to ensure that viewers will want to tune in.
