Amy Winehouse to appeal in Norway against drugs fine
Troubled singer Amy Winehouse has to attend a court in Norway to appeal against a fine for possession of cannabis.

Amy Winehouse, 24, had spent the night in police custody in Bergen in October, but she had been let go after she paid 500 euros (£350; $714) fine.

Amy WinehouseHowever, Amy Winehouse's father, Mitch, has said a conviction for drugs would ruin her chances of getting a US visa, and be disastrous for her career, and it has been reported that she will appeal against the charges on 29 February.

Norwegian police spokeswoman Liv Karlsen said: "I can confirm that she must appear in court. If one appeals against a conviction, it's the rule that one has to appear in person, so this is not surprising."

Amy Winehouse, her husband Blake Fielder-Civil and another person were arrested at a hotel after being discovered with 7g (0.25oz) of cannabis in their possession.

Amy Winehouse had been in the news a lot not only because of her talents as a singer but also because she has battled against drink and drug problems.
