Peter Jackson to produce 2 films of JRR Tolkien's The HobbitPeter Jackson, who was an Oscar-winner for directing the Lord of the Rings movies, has signed a contract to produce two films based on JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit.
Peter Jackson had been arguing with New Line Cinema over income made by the first film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but their problem has been resolved and Peter Jackson said: "I'm very pleased that we've been able to put our differences behind us."
Explaining that he would be working with the film company again, Peter Jackson added: "We are delighted to continue our journey through Middle Earth." And Peter Jackson said in a statement that his Wingnut Films company would be able to "begin a new chapter with our old friends at New Line". The two Hobbit films will be filmed at the same time, with their general release planned for 2010 and 2011, however, whilst Peter Jackson has been chosen as the producer, a director has yet to be named.
