Greenpeace targets Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo in campaignEnvironmental activist group Greenpeace is asking gamers to try and persuade the big three makers of consoles, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, to make their products more environmentally friendly.
Greenpeace maintain that the game console manufacturers have so far done nothing "to reduce the toxic burden of their products," and it claims that Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony are falling way behind mobile phone and PC makers.
Zenia Al Hajj, from Greenpeace International, explained: "Game console manufacturers are lagging way behind the makers of mobile phones and PCs who have been reducing the toxic load of the products over the past year." Greenpeace has produced a short video featuring some of the main games console characters such as Microsoft's Master Chief, Nintendo's Mario and Sony's Kratos, as rivals for the prize of a greener games console. Gamers can draw comparisons of how each console fares with regard to toxic materials, recycling and energy efficiency, and they can also show their support for the Greenpeace campaign.
