Bass-player Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers rock band has lost his multi-million pound house in the fires that have devastated Malibu over the weekend.

Flea’s house was one of 53 ruined by the wildfire, which caused widespread destruction on Saturday, and he is reported to have told the Los Angeles Times that his home valued at $4.8m (£2.3m) was "burnt to a crisp".

It has been estimated that at least 14,000 people fled the fires on Saturday, but many went back the day after when firefighters had managed to control the blaze.

Fire-fighting chiefs in the Los Angeles are say they think the fire will be fully dealt with by Tuesday.

Investigators believe arsonists probably deliberately started the wildfire in Malibu and that its origins gave cause for suspicion.
