American Idol entrants win the most American Music Awards
Entrants who had been in the American Idol TV talent show have won the most honours at this year's American Music Awards.

Carrie Underwood, who was the winner of American Idol in 2005, received three awards including favourite female country artist and country album.


American IdolAnd Chris Daughtry, who was in it in 2006, also claimed three awards with his band, defeating Justin Timberlake in the favourite pop-rock album category.

Justin Timberlake himself won two awards and received them via a video link-up from Australia.

Rapper TI also wasn’t able to attend the ceremony because he is under house arrest pending trial on charges involving weapons, however, he took two prizes in the hip-hop genre, for the best male artist and best album.

Usher made the presentation to Beyonce and she received the international artist award, which is reserved for an elite selection of artists such as past winners Michael Jackson and Rod Stewart.

The nominees for the American Music Awards were chosen by the figures for national sales and radio play.
