French and US presidents to work on a nuke-free Iran
American President George W. Bush and French President Nicolas Sarkozy have been having talks since Nicolas Sarkozy arrived in the US and they have agreed to work together to get Iran to have no nuclear programmes.

George Bush is reported to have praised Nicolas Sarkozy as "a partner in peace".


Nicolas SarkozyNicolas Sarkozy was given a standing ovation when he spoke and it marked the first address made by a French leader to a joint session of Congress in over ten years.

President Nicolas Sarkozy promised that France would support America in Afghanistan and he urged Americans to do more to combat the threat of global warming.

Nicolas Sarkozy also complained that the Bush administration had allowed the dollar to drop badly against the euro.

George Bush later explained to the press that he and Nicolas Sarkozy had agreed to "work jointly to convince the Iranian regime to give up their nuclear ambitions for the sake of peace".

Whilst Nicolas Sarkozy said: "It is unacceptable for Iran at any point to have a nuclear weapon."
