
Nicolas Sarkozy was given a standing ovation when he spoke and it marked the first address made by a French leader to a joint session of Congress in over ten years.
President Nicolas Sarkozy promised that France would support America in Afghanistan and he urged Americans to do more to combat the threat of global warming.
Nicolas Sarkozy also complained that the Bush administration had allowed the dollar to drop badly against the euro.
George Bush later explained to the press that he and Nicolas Sarkozy had agreed to "work jointly to convince the Iranian regime to give up their nuclear ambitions for the sake of peace".
Whilst Nicolas Sarkozy said: "It is unacceptable for Iran at any point to have a nuclear weapon."
