French President Nicolas Sarkozy gets his salary increased
The parliament of France have made the decision of more than doubling French President Nicolas Sarkozy's current salary of some 7,700 euros a month, so as to bring it into line with that of the prime minister of the country.

From next year onwards, Nicolas Sarkozy's wage will total 19,000 euros (£13,243; $27,453) gross every month, which will be that same amount as what Prime Minister Francois Fillon is getting.

Nicolas SarkozyNicolas Sarkozy naturally approved of his payrise and the other changes and he is reported to have said: "I want transparency... it's not up to me to set it".

The National Assembly decided too that they would more than triple the budget of Nicolas Sarkozy's 1,045 staff at the Elysee Palace.

The budget for the Elysee Palace will now be brought to as much as 100m euros annually; as compared with the 32m it receives at present. Nicolas Sarkozy’s staff will all be on the payroll for the Elysee Palace, but in the past many of them were getting their money paid by ministries.
