Woodstock pop festival museum to open in New York
A museum about the famous Woodstock pop festival of the sixties is going to open next year although it has lost $1 million (£485,000) in government funding, it has been reported.

The Woodstock museum at Bethel Woods in the New York area where the three-day event was held in 1969 is being built on top of the hill near where the original Woodstock festival stage once was.

Jimi HendrixCountless people visit the site each year to pay tribute to a place where a stone monument is currently the only marker for what was once billed as "three days of peace and love."

New York Senators Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer had been seeking $1 million in funding for the Woodstock museum but other politicians voted against it, although Bethel Woods has already received $15 million (£7.3m) in funds.

The late great Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin were amongst the acts that performed at the event.
