Signed first edition Harry Potter book auctioned at Christie’s
Even though there was a mistake in author JK Rowling’s name, a very rare signed first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone has been reported as sold for £19,700 at Christie's auction house in London.

The book, which was signed "Joanne Rowling", had been estimated to have been between £8,000-£12,000 in value, so it was actually bought for a lot more.

JK RowlingJK Rowling's name was spelled incorrectly on the title page as "JA Rowling", but this error did not put bidders off the item or knock down its value.

The message written in the Harry Potter book reads: "To Ella - I know your Mum!!! And she beat me in the quiz but we won't mention that - love from Jo (aka JK Rowling)".

A paperback edition also signed by author JK Rowling, was also sold together with a first hardback edition of the second book in the series about the teenage wizard - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - for £1,250.
