Marie Trintignant died after being in a coma for days and the case shocked France at the time of his trail, which took place in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. However, Bertrand Cantat was imprisoned in France.
Bertrand Cantat’s probation terms state that the singer must receive psychological treatment for a year and he is banned from mentioning the matter on stage or in any other audiovisual form.
Marie Trintignant, who was the daughter of film star Jean-Louis Trintignant, had been in Vilnius to star in a movie directed by her mother Nadine at the time she was killed.
Her mother wrote in vain to French President Nicolas Sarkozy requesting that Bertrand Cantat should serve his full sentence and she claimed that letting him out early sent the wrong signal about violence against women.
Bertrand Cantat’s lawyer, however, is reported to have said: "I am delighted with this decision, which will allow Bertrand Cantat to rebuild his future."
