French Senate approves DNA testing for immigrants
The French Senate has given the go-ahead to a controversial law, which will enable voluntary DNA testing to take place for would-be immigrants who are hoping to join their families in France, and supporters of the new law claim it will speed up the procedure for genuine applicants.

The fact that 12 other European countries have similar policies is used to back up their argument.

Immigrant family members older than 16 would be required to undergo a test in their country of origin and also to show a good knowledge of French language and the culture of France.

The would-be immigrants must also demonstrate how their family in France could support them and prove that they could earn at least the minimum wage for the country.

The French government, as a measure preventing any possible discrimination against those who are too poor to afford the tests, will now pay for the DNA tests it has been reported.
