The dresses are part of the private collection of Oscar-winning costume designer William Travilla, and after he died in Los Angeles in 1990, the whole collection of Marilyn Monroe’s clothes went to his partner Bill Sarris, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease.
The dresses once worn by Marilyn Monroe are being displayed along with several of William Travilla's patterns and sketches.
Other dresses in the collection include Marilyn Monroe’s purple satin costume from How to Marry a Millionaire and a red sequin dress the actress wore in Gentleman Prefer Blondes
The exhibition of Marilyn Monroe’s dresses runs from 2 October to 7 October and there will other follow-on showings in other parts of the country.
