Russian governor encourages sex by prize offer
Whilst many people think that we need to reduce the population of the planet, in Russia the reverse is being considered, and the governor of the Ulyanovsk region is actually offering prizes to couples who have babies in nine months time on Russia's national day of 12 June.

Governor Sergei Morozov is reported to be encouraging couples to take the day off work in order to spend time having sex and if a baby is then born on Russia’s national day, they will be given cars, TVs and other valuable items as prizes.

Governor Sergei MorozovSergei Morozov has called Wednesday the "family contact day" and is trying to combat Russia’s population decline, because it has been estimated that Russia could lose as many as a third of its population by the middle of the century.

Falling birth rates, emigration and an ailing health care system have all contributed to the drastic drop in the population of Russia.

President Vladimir Putin has also been encouraging women to have more children, and those who have a second or third child are can receive $9,000 which can be used to pay for education or to improve their home lives.
