Gerry McCann said in his blog that when the facts have all been looked at properly the truth would emerge showing that he and his wife " played no part in Madeleine's abduction".
Alipio Ribeiro , the national director of the force investigating the case, said test results did not give the same precision as had been claimed in reports and he explained to Portuguese state broadcaster RTP: "We can't say with certainty whether it was the blood of person A or person B."
The details of Madeleine McCann’s abduction investigation so far are expected to be delivered on Tuesday and the prosecution will have to decide if they will press charges against the Gerry and Kate McCann or ask for more evidence.
Gerry and Kate McCann went back to the UK from Portugal on Sunday with their two-year-old twins, Sean and Amelie. The couple were questioned separately last week for more than 24 hours, however, no bail conditions, travel restrictions or charges have been imposed on them.
Nevertheless, Gerry and Kate McCann can be recalled to Portugal with five days' notice, and under Portuguese law, they can be left as suspects for up to eight months.
