Maddie’s parents sue Portuguese paper for libel
Madeleine McCann’s parents are reported to be suing Tal & Qual, a Portuguese newspaper, for libel because it suggested they killed their own daughter.

Tal & Qual had published a news story last week, which said that the "police believe" Kate and Gerry McCann killed Madeleine McCann, whilst the paper itself suggested the little girl may have died accidentally but at the hands of the parents.

Madeleine McCannTal &Qual’s headline story, was entitled "The police believe the parents killed Maddie", and put forward the idea that the couple had either caused a fatal accident or had given drugs to their little daughter.

The lawyers on behalf of Madeleine McCann’s parents will file for defamation, claiming the story had caused "suffering and humiliation" and meanwhile, police have pointed out that the McCanns themselves are not suspects.

Four-year-old Madeleine McCann had disappeared from a holiday apartment in the Algarve, on 3 May while her parents were at a nearby restaurant.

There has been a massive amount of media speculation in Portugal since the police declared that Madeleine McCann might have died, however, last week, Mr McCann issued an appeal to the media to stop the ongoing rumours about his daughter's whereabouts and death.
